If Leslie were a Beatle, she'd be George Harrison. If she were an animal, she would be a lemur. If she had a superpower, it would be something like glowing in the dark. I've worked with Leslie at school presentations, and she is awesome. She knows how to talk to kids. She knows how to connect with them, and how to teach, and how to have fun. She knows how to be honest and real. She is magnetic and inspiring and your students will swarm.
-Derek Munson, author and speaker

Leslie's appearance at our Arts Night was a highlight of the evening. She captured the audience with her energy, enthusiasm, and humor when talking about her life as an author/illustrator. With a fabulous Power Point presentation, we were able to get to know her as a person (who knew she collected Peeps), see where she works, and how she puts a book together. She gave some concrete ideas about how to get started writing and how a line change can determine a character's expression. Students and parents went away smiling and inspired.

It was wonderful to have you here at King's Elementary, and we all so enjoyed your presentation. Thank you for inspiring our students.

I like how Leslie makes her books pretty much about her kids, and what they did in their childhood. Also, I think it is amazing how she can write and illustrate books when their house is blasting with music. I also think it is cool how sometimes she asks her family to pose so she can draw her pictures.
- Sage Reinschild, 7th Grade Student, Wood River Middle School

Leslie visited our school to talk with our 7th and 8th graders about her experiences as a writer and an artist. She has a conversational style and a good sense of humor, treating the middle schoolers as her equals, to which the students responded enthusiastically. She used visuals as she talked and this made her process as an artist and writer come alive for the kids. Many students commented on how much they learned from her during the 40 minutes she spent with them. What were those lessons? Well, that inspiration can come from their own family and friends, that if one wants to succeed at writing or drawing, one must practice writing and drawing a lot, and that creating a book even a picture book - takes a lot time and a lot of effort. Thanks, Leslie, for sharing your talents with our students! - Susan Tabor Boesch, Teacher Librarian, Wood River Middle School
